Hygge Up Your Life

I've been reading and seeing a lot about Hygge (pronounced hoo-ger) recently and thought that it was a really interesting subject for a blog post. It's a Danish word that pretty much means comfort and cosiness but is also a lifestyle. On my trip to Denmark earlier in the year I noticed that they seemed to have life pretty much sorted out and now we know why! Read on to find out how to inject a bit of Hygge into your life...

Food & Drink

Not feeling guilty to indulge is a big part of Hygge. In Denmark pastries are everywhere (see above!) and enjoying them with friends is part of the fun. Christmas is also the peak of Hygge season and hot drinks and bowl of porridge are plentiful. Also, early lunch at about 11am is not uncommon. Where do I sign up?!

Lifestyle

Creating a warm and cosy atmosphere is encouraged, light some candles and curl up on the sofa with a blanket and a book. Add some scented salts to your bath and relax. The art of Hygge is taking some 'me time', relaxing with friends or just simply enjoying life, there's no rushing or worrying which sounds like the perfect life philosophy to me!

Have you read about Hygge before?

Thanks for reading :)

  1. It's nice to learn about Hygge - I would have pronounced in another way, so thanks for clarifying that! I love pastries and a cosy atmosphere! Denmark certainly knows how to do that! Hope you have a nice day!
